South African Environmental Observation Network
South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON) is an emerging research facility within the National Research Foundation that focuses on environmental change. The SAEON Elwandle Coastal Node, one of six SAEON nodes, is based in Gqeberha on the Ocean Sciences Campus. The Elwandle Node also manages the Shallow Marine and Coastal Research Infrastructure (
SMCRI
) on behalf of the DSI and NRF with the aim to provide a suite of innovative research platforms and data to the science community.
SAEON’s vision is to offer world-class environmental research platforms for a sustainable society. As such, its national operations include research, data management and modelling related to environmental change, decision and technical support, education and outreach, and instrumentation.
